The Greater Chennai police of Tamil Nadu is in the probe on a person who has cheated a woman of Rs 29 lakh including cash and gold under the pretext of marrying her.
The man who posed himself as a Dubai-based businessman contacted a widow after her family uploaded her details to a matrimony firm in T Nagar. The man, Aravind Subramanian of Ekkathungal approached the firm and claimed that he was a divorcee and based out of Dubai.
The woman showed interest in him and later they entered into a close relationship wherein the man requested her gold and money for some urgent business need.
The woman met him at Pondy Bazar in Chennai and handed over the gold and cash amounting to Rs 29 lakhs. However, after receiving the money the man switched off his phone and is absconding since then.
Greater Chennai Police has constituted a special team and is investigating the man’s antecedents and have also reached the TNagar matrimony centre on his address and other details. Police are tight-lipped on the progress of the probe except that they are in close pursuit of the culprit.
