Amit Shah presents President’s colour to Puducherry police

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday presented the prestigious President’s Colour to the Puducherry Police, recognising the force’s distinguished record of service, discipline and professional excellence.

At a ceremonial event held at the Puducherry Armed Police Ground in Gorimedu, Shah formally handed over the President’s Colour, also known as Nishaan, to the Ensign Officer of the force. Director General of Police Shalini Singh accompanied the Home Minister during the presentation.

Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, senior police officers, government officials and other dignitaries attended the ceremony.

President Droupadi Murmu had on May 8 approved the conferment of the President’s Colour on the Puducherry Police in recognition of its exceptional service and distinguished achievements over the years.

The President’s Colour is considered the highest honour that can be bestowed upon a military unit or police force in the country. It symbolises an organisation’s long-standing commitment to duty, professionalism and service to the nation. Several branches of the armed and security forces and police forces of various states have previously received the distinction.

Elaborate security arrangements were made across Puducherry for Shah’s visit. More than 1,000 personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force and Puducherry Police were deployed at strategic locations, while vehicle inspections were intensified at entry points and across the city.

Traffic restrictions and diversions were introduced along the Home Minister’s travel route, particularly on roads connecting Gorimedu, Raj Nivas and Puducherry airport. Authorities also prohibited drones, unmanned aerial vehicles and other flying devices as part of the security arrangements.

Shah arrived in Puducherry on Saturday night after engagements in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. Earlier, he visited Tiruvannamalai, where he offered prayers at the Arunachaleswarar Temple and visited the Sri Ramana Maharshi Ashram before proceeding to Puducherry.
