Kollam ,August 24

Kottiyam police have arrested a 30-year-old man accused of uploading and selling intimate videos of his wife to pornographic websites. He has also been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly committing obscene acts in the presence of his four-year-old daughter.

The accused, who had gone into hiding after his wife approached the police, was arrested in Kollam. Police have registered two cases against him, including one for assault and offences under the Information Technology Act.

POCSO provisions were subsequently added following a second complaint from the woman. She alleged that her husband had exposed himself and behaved obscenely before their daughter. The complainant also submitted video evidence to investigators.

Advocate Prasanth V. Kurup, representing the woman, said a petition seeking an investigation supervised by the district police chief was withdrawn from the Kerala High Court after the POCSO charges were invoked. He said the evidence was examined by a team headed by the Chathannur Assistant Commissioner of Police. The child was also taken to a psychologist, and her statement was recorded.

According to the complaint, the accused was addicted to pornographic content and had recorded private videos of his wife despite her objections. The woman allegedly learnt from friends that the videos were circulating on pornographic websites. When confronted, he allegedly threatened to kill her.

The couple, who had been living in the United Kingdom, arrived in Kerala for counselling on August 14. The accused attended counselling sessions on August 15 and 19. However, the woman alleged that his inappropriate behaviour continued.

When she informed her parents, the accused allegedly struck her head with an iron box and kicked her after she fell.

The complaint further alleges that he possessed intimate videos of several women, including members of his family. Police said investigators would collect and examine digital evidence as part of the continuing probe.
