Chennai, April 11(BPNS)

The beaches of Chennai,Chengalpet and Kancheepuram will be out of public bounds on all weekends from April 11 onwards. This is applicable on all government holidays also based on the Covid surge in the city and the state.

A government order said that religious places can stay open till 10 pm on all days but no religious congregations or group prayer meetings will allowed. However Government will allow Cinemahalls and multiplexes to conduct one more show in addition to the four shows at present but will be limited to 50 percent of the total capacity.

The Greater Chennai Development Corporation Commissioner G Prakash while speaking to BPNS said, “We are able to manage the crowd at 80 percent of the vegetable and fruit markets apart from the wholesale Koyambedu market but regulating the crowd at Kasimedu fishing harbor is a big challenge. We have to manage the balance between livelihood and public health and 24,000 fishermen are there in the market and we cannot take a unilateral decision affecting their livelihood.”
