The CPM cadres have blocked and hurled abuses at  the NDA candidate Smitha Jayamohan who is contesting from the Pervaroor assembly constituency in Kannur district of Kerala. Incidentally Kannur is the home district of Kerala Chief minister and CPM politburo member, Pinarayi Vijayan.

The incident took place when the convoy of vehicles carrying the candidate was blocked on Saturday evening at “Mudakozhi Mala”, a  CPM bastion in this part of the district. It may be recalled that it was at this place that CPM had given protection and cover for the killers of estranged CPM leader TP Chandrashekharan who was brutally murdered on 4th May, 2012 by a group of CPM killer gang. The gang members were protected by the party at “Mudakozhi Mala” and a police team led by the present Superentident of National Investigation Agency, Shoukathali had arrested the  culprits.

Smitha Jayamohan is the Kannur district president of the Mahila Morcha, the women’s wing of the BJP and hails from Thalassery, the epicenter of political violence in Kannur district. There were several attempts on her life and country made bombs were hurled at her.

Smitha while speaking to BPNS said, “It was a really frightening situation and several CPM cadres had assembled together when our vehicles had reached there. They did not allow me to request votes and was hurling abuses at me and I was surrounded by a large group of CPM cadres who were not even giving me the consideration of being a women. Police arrived and had to disperse the unruly mob from attacking me.”

BJP leader V Manivarnan said that this was the CPM way of democracy and that the BJP will not be cowed down by such cowardice acts of the CPM.
