Chennai, Dec 31 (BPNS)
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted extremely heavy rains in one or two areas of Nagapattinam in the next couple of days. Very heavy rains are predicted in delta districts over the next few days and in Villupuram, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Chennai, and Tiruvallur districts of Tamil Nadu.
Heavy to very heavy rains are likely in the Union Territory of Puducherry and in Karaikkal area for the next couple of days.
The Regional meteorological centre has also predicted moderate to heavy rains with thunderstorms for the next five days in the Union Territory of Puducherry and in most coastal districts of Tamil Nadu. The interior districts of Tamil Nadu will also have heavy rains in the next few days.
It may be noted that Chennai witnessed heavy and uninterrupted rains for six hours continuously on Thursday leading to heavy waterlogging. The weathermen were not able to predict such heavy rains which were attributed to cloud bursts.
Three people were electrocuted in the rains and waterlogging at Chennai and adjoining districts of Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges and for non-essential government offices in Chennai and adjoining districts on Friday due to the heavy rains and waterlogging.
