Widespread rain forecast in Kerala until Saturday due to twin cyclonic circulations

Thiruvananthapuram, June 24

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has revised its rain forecast for Kerala following the influence of two cyclonic circulations currently active over eastern India.

Widespread rainfall is now expected across the state until Saturday, with isolated heavy showers likely in several districts. Authorities have advised residents to remain vigilant during this period.

Earlier today, the weather warning was limited to just five districts. However, the updated forecast now includes not only the northern parts of Kerala but also central districts such as Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Idukki, where isolated heavy rainfall is anticipated.

As a precaution, a yellow alert has been issued in eight districts in northern Kerala. The IMD has listed the following weather alerts for the coming days .Wednesday (June 25): Yellow alert in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod.
Thursday (June 26): All districts except Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam are under rain watch.
Friday (June 27): All districts except Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Pathanamthitta are on alert.
Saturday (June 28): The alert is restricted to northern Kerala, with yellow warnings in Kozhikode, Malappuram, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod.

The weather changes are attributed to the presence of a cyclonic circulation over the west-central Bay of Bengal near coastal northern Andhra Pradesh and adjoining southern Odisha. Additionally, another circulation is present over southern Uttar Pradesh.

The combined influence of these systems is enhancing moisture flow and instability, leading to the current rain activity, the IMD said.

Authorities have urged the public, especially those in rain-prone regions, to follow safety guidelines and monitor official updates closely.
