Two days after the sensational murder of AIADMK functionary and businessman ,Thirumaran an assailant has surrendered before the Chief metropolitan magistrate court at Trichy on Tuesday. Police refused to name the assailant but said that he was involved in the crime.
Thirumaran was murdered while he was on a visit to Selva Muthukumara Swamy temple, Maraimalai Nagar, Chengalpet with his wife as it was his wedding anniversary.
After he received a call on his mobile phone, he went outside with his wife inside the temple and immediately country bombs were hurled at him. Thirumaran tried to escape but he fell after being hit by a bomb and the killer gang hacked him to death.
His Personal Security Officer(PSO), Ezhilarasan, a police constable with Tamil Nadu police opened fire at the assailants and killed one of the assailants , who was later named as Suresh on the spot. Suresh was from Athur in Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu.
Thirumaran who was doing a partnership business with one Rajesh in supplying daily wage workers to private companies later fell apart with Rajesh and this led to rivalry between the two. There were two attempts on his life in 2016 and 2017 which were masterminded by Rajesh. Thirumaran had applied for a PSO for his safety which was granted by the local court .He also had a gun without a license from Nagaland.
Police will take Rajesh into custody following the murder as the family of Thirumaran had already complained that he was the mastermind of the murder and that he be interrogated.
Police SHO of MM Nagar police station while speaking to BPNS said, “ Police are into the case and we are conducting an investigation. I cant speak further on the same.”
