Chennai, September 15 (BPNS)

A NEET aspirant, Soundharya .T. was found dead at her home in Katpadi of Vellore district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. She had written the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Examination (NEET) on Sunday and had told her friends that she had not done well in the exam.

Police suspect that she took her life as she had not done well in the NEET examination. No suicide note was found near her body.

The suicide death of Soundharya is the third suicide in the state due to pressure in NEET after Dhanush (I9) was found hanging at his residence on Sunday morning hours before the examination.

On Monday evening Kanimozhi, daughter of an advocate couple at Ariyalur district of Tamil Nadu had taken her life after she feared that she had not done well in the NEET.

Soundharya who had topped her local government school in tenth and twelfth standards was a bright student, according to her teachers and her friends. However, she had told her classmates that the NEET exam which she had written on Sunday was tough and that she expected not to clear the exam.

Police said that her parents, S. Tirunavakkarasu and T. Rukmani with whom she was living were daily wage earners. They had left their home at Kathalapattu village at Kaniyambadi block near Katpadi in Vellore early in the morning of Wednesday.

Soundharya was alone at home after the parents left and when the neighbours called her at 10.30 am there was no answer and they alerted the police and her parents. Police rushed and broke open the house and found her body inside. Police have registered a case of unnatural death under Section 174.

It is to be noted that the DMK government of Tamil Nadu have been in protest to do away with the NEET exam in the state and had pointed out that students from impoverished backgrounds were not able to crack the exam.

Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin had while moving a resolution in the Tamil Nadu assembly against NEET exam said that the students of villages are not able to crack the examination as they are not getting proper training and the state does not want that.

The bill was passed unanimously in the house with the BJP legislators walking out of the house.
