Chennai, March 31 (BPNS)

Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder leader, Dr. S. Ramadoss expressed disappointment over the Supreme Court verdict upholding the Madras High court judgment of quashing the 10.5 percent reservation to the Vanniyar community within the 20 percent reservation given to the Most  Backward Classes (MBCs) in Tamil Nadu.

It is to be noted that PMK is a political party of the powerful Vanniyar community which has a major strength in North Tamil Nadu.

Ramadoss said that the Supreme Court verdict even was a disappointment to the community, there were certain positivities in it as it had rejected six out of the seven grounds on which the Madras High Court had quashed the 10.5% reservation for the Vanniyars.

Speaking to BPNS  the powerful leader of the PMK expressed hope that the Vanniyar reservation would become a reality.

He said, “The Supreme Court had pointed out that the state government had not given data to show that the Vanniyar community is treated as a separate group within the MBCs”.

The PMK leader said that it was possible to get the data from the Tamil Nadu Backward Classes Commission and referred to the remarks by the Supreme Court that the state has the legislative competence to pass the Act.

Dr. Ramadoss said, “ I do urge the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru M.K. Stalin to take measures to get the data from the Tamil Nadu Backward Classes Commission and to pass legislation for Vanniyar reservation. “

The PMK leader said that the party would also put pressure on the state government to enact legislation as the Supreme Court itself has mentioned that the state has the legislative competence to pass a resolution.
