Chennai, April 29 (BPNS)

A single bench of the Madras High Court on Friday stayed all further proceedings in a criminal defamation case against Union minister of state and former Tamil Nadu state BJP president, L. Murugan.

The criminal case was filed by Murosoli Trust in January 2021 against

L. Murugan for having reportedly made some remarks related to the title of the trust property while he was president of the Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP.

Justice A.D. Jagdish Chandra also dispensed off the minister’s public appearance before the special court for cases booked against Members of Parliament and Members of the Legislative assembly. It may be noted that the special court had taken cognizance of the complaint and had issued summons requiring his personal appearance. It may be noted that the Union Minister had filed a petition through his counsel B. Babu Manohar for an interim stay on the proceedings pending before the special court as it had issued summons for his personal appearance.

The judge further ordered notice to the trust on the quash petition filed by the minister.

The case is adjourned for June 20th.
