CMs appeal: DMK parliamentarians to contribute one month’s salary to Sri Lanka

Chennai, May 5 (BPNS)

The Members of Parliament of Loksabha and Rajyasabha from DMK will contribute one month’s salary to the Sri Lankan relief fund following the appeal by  Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin.

The money will be contributed to the Chief Minister’s Public relief fund. It may be noted that the  Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M.K. Stalin has called upon the people of the state to contribute profusely to help the people of Sri Lanka who are in distress following the economic crisis that has lashed the island nation.

The DMK has already announced a contribution of Rs 1 crore to the Sri Lankan relief fund.

The DMK in a statement on Thursday said, “ The DMK’s loksabha and Rajyasabha members will contribute their one month’s salary to the Chief Ministers Public relief fund.”

Stalin had on Tuesday appealed to the people of Tamil Nadu to contribute to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund to buy essentials and food items to ship to Sri Lanka.

The Tamil Nadu government got a shot in the arm when the Union External affairs minister S. Jayashankar had allowed the state government to collect materials and funds for sending relief to Sri Lanka which is reeling under an acute financial crisis.
