UT of Lakshadweep to have enhanced mobile network connectivity

The Union Territory of Lakshadweep will have new 18 4G mobile towers leading to enhanced mobile network connectivity. 19 existing 2G mobile towers will be upgraded to 4G services. Lakshadweep administration Secretary, S. Asker Ali IAS in a statement on Friday said that the Department of Telecom has given approval for the development package of communication network in the Union Territory.

With the implementation of the mobile development package, the entire Lakshadweep will have increased mobile connectivity and capacity to provide optical fiber to every home.

The administration in the statement said that this would be a major boost in providing better network connectivity and IT-based services for the local population.

The statement also said that as a special project for the UT of Lakshadweep the Central Government has approved Kochi- Lakshadweep submarine optical fiber connectivity project. The project will be completed in October 2023 and would lead to an increase in the bandwidth of Lakshadweep from  1.71 GBPS to 100 GBPS.
