The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) is predicting heavy rains in Chennai and adjoining districts on Monday. Chennai and adjoining areas witnessed heavy downpour on late Sunday night inundating several parts of Chennai corporation.
Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam received heavy rains on Sunday night and several streets in the city were immersed in water.
An upper air circulation caused the steady spell of rain which started only as a drizzle by evening on Sunday but later developed into heavy showers.
Weather models also showed winds changing to westerlies, which led to thunderstorms across the city and suburbs. The heavy rains on Sunday, according to weathermen is an indication of more thunderstorms in the coming days in Chennai and suburbs other than the possibility of heavy rains on Monday.
The heavy rains have brought a reprieve from the scorching heat in Chennai and suburbs for the residents.
