DMK directs party workers to be more cautious in four Lok Sabha constituencies where NDA has lead

Chennai, April 18 (BPNS)

The DMK state leadership has conveyed to its cadres to be extra cautious in four Lok Sabha constituencies where the BJP-led NDA is having an edge. State police intelligence has reported that NDA getting an edge in Dharmapuri, Theni, Tirunelveli and Vellore Lok Sabha seats.

In Dharmpauri, NDA alliance partner and Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader, Sowmiya Anbumani is contesting the poll and in Theni, Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) leader TTV Dhinakaran is the candidate.

Similarly, BJP itself is performing extremely well in Tirunelveli in South Tamil Nadu, where the BJP legislative party leader Nainar Nagendran is contesting, and in Vellore Lok Sabha seat, New Justice Party leader, A.C. Shanumgam is contesting in a BJP ticket.

Sources in the DMK told BPNS that the party president Stalin has directed the party general secretary and state Water Resources Minister,S. Duraimurugan to be in touch with the lower-level functionaries of the party in these constituencies. Duraimurugan’s son, Kathir Anand, is contesting from the Vellore Lok Sabha seat.

The DMK leadership, according to information available is also considering, Coimbatore, Kanniyakumari, Virudhunagar, and Nilgiris seats witnessing a tough contest. In Coimbatore, BJP Tamil Nadu state president, K. Annamalai is contesting while at Kanniyakumari former Union minister, Pon Radhakrishnan is the candidate.

In Virudhunagar Lok Sabha seat, film star turned politician, Raadhika Sarathkumar is contesting from the seat on a BJP ticket while in Nilgiris Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, L. Murugan is fighting the polls on a BJP ticket.

With hours only remaining for the polls, the local workers of the DMK are visiting all the homes in the four constituencies where the state police intelligence has given an edge to the BJP and NDA. For the other four seats also the DMK is not leaving any stone unturned and is meeting the voters one last time.

S. Duraimurugan while speaking to BPNS said, “ This is a routine for the DMK. We are a cadre party and we know of our strengths and weaknesses and in some constituencies, we are into some extra caution. However, we are expecting a sweep and win in all the 39 seats of Tamil Nadu and one seat of Puducherry.”
