Chennai, June 2 (BPNS)

The political parties of Tamil Nadu were mixed in their response to the exit poll results released yesterday by various poll agencies in association with television channels.

While DMK was guarded in its response with the party general secretary and Minister for Water Resources, S. Duraimurugan stating that the DMK and INDIA bloc would win more seats than predicted by the exit poll agencies. Speaking to BPNS the senior leader said that the DMK and allies will have a better performance than the 2019 poll results.

It may be recalled that in 2019, DMK led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) had won 38 of the 39 seats. The reaction of Duraimurugan would mean that the DMK alliance would sweep the polls.

DMK organizing R.S. Bharathi when contacted said that the party and allies are expecting a clean sweep in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Meanwhile AIADMK leaders said in private that the Lok Sabha election results would pave the way for bettering its political positioning and that the party would analyse in detail on the losses if the exact results of June 4 match the exit poll results.

A senior leader of the AIADMK on conditions of anonymity while speaking to BPNS said, “ The AIADMK will do better than what was projected in the exit polls. In the 2021 assembly elections, we had 33% vote share and we don’t expect a main dip from that position. However if the June 4 results match the exit poll results, then the party would have to undergo a major revamp and new and fresh faces have to be inducted in the leadership.”

The BJP state leadership exhibited confidence in the election results. Party spokesman ANS Prasad while speaking to BPNS said, “ The NDA is to win six seats at the minimum and we can win upto 10 seats in the elections.”

The BJP leader also said that the NDA tally in Tamil Nadu could go higher than what was predicted by the Exit polls and added that people of Tamil Nadu have reacted to the positive governance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the past ten years.

The CPI-M state secretary ,K. Balakrishnan when contacted, told BPNS that both the party candidates in Dindigul and Madurai will win comfortably in the elections. However he said that the party does not believe in exit polls but the ground reports from the party cadres.

CPI state secretary R. Mutharasan also expressed confidence in the victory of both its candidates. The CPI has contested from Nagapattinam and Tiruppur. Mutharasan said that the party candidates will win both the seats with good margin and added that the party was getting direct feedback from party cadres and INDIA bloc allies
