Chennai, June 17 (IANS)
MDMK leader and Member of Parliament, Vaiko has called upon the Government of India to roll back on the Agnipath scheme. The senior leader in a statement said that the Central government’s primary objective is to launch the Agnipath scheme to reduce the expenses of the nation’s defense forces towards retirement benefits and pensions. However, he said that this was the opinion of the experts and said that the short-term recruitment process was unjustifiable.
The BJP government’s scheme resulted in protests by youths in Rajasthan, Bihar, Haryana, Jharkhand, and other North Indian states. He said that trains are being burnt in several places.
The senior leader said that with growing unemployment the youths wanted to join the armed forces and added that the contractual postings would demean the defense forces. Vaiko also said that there seems to be an ulterior motive for the Union government to saffronize the defense forces and implement RSS agenda.
