The Regional centre of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains in Tamil Nadu till July 27, Wednesday.
Heavy rains, according to the IMD are likely in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tiruppatur, Salem, Kallakurichi, Karur, Namakkal, Tiruchirapalli, Perambalur, Madurai, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Kanniyakumari and Thenkasi districts of the state.
In Chennai, Chennai and adjoining areas are likely to be cloudy on Sunday, and light to moderate rains are likely in some areas.
Weathermen have also warned of thunderstorms and lighting in many parts of the state along with showers. With the work of stormwater drains still not completed, the possibility of inundation in some lying areas of the state is worrying the water works department authorities.
It is to be noted that Tamil Nadu has received 65 % excess rainfall during the current monsoon period compared to the previous year. Chennai has received 79% excess rainfall in the current season.
