Former Union minister and leader of Pattali Makkal Katchi(PMK), Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss has called upon the central government to immediately intervene in the widespread attack on Tamils in particular and Indians in general in South Africa after the arrest of former South African President, Jacob Zuma.

In a press statement, the former Union health minister said that in the ongoing riots in South Africa around 72 people have died in the past six days. He called upon the Union government to depute a special envoy to South Africa to urge that country to bring the riots under control.

The PMK leader said that several Tamil persons are being targeted and their belongings destroyed and the situation in South Africa is grave and immediate Indian intervention is the need of the hour.

Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss said that the people of Indian origin who are living in South Africa are in bad shape following the riots and called upon the Union government to immediately take control of the situation. He also said that he was in a state of shock following news reports on the happenings in that country.

It is to be noted that Pattali Makakl Katchi(PMK) is an alliance partner of the BJP, AIADMK combine in Tamil Nadu and the statement of the senior leader of the PMK seems significant in this period of time.
