Chennai, August 9 (BPNS)

The youth wing leader of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss who was also, a former Union health minister said that the state government must bring in reforms to correct the economic crisis and should not pass on the burden to the people by raising taxes.

The PMK leader in a statement said that the white paper brought out by the state finance minister PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan has raised serious concerns on whether this could be a prelude to announcements including a hike in electricity tariff, property tax, vehicle tax, and bus fares. He said that the minister had mentioned that these fares were not raised for the past several years and this could be an indication of the rise in fares.

The former Union minister said that the White paper should not used as a means to raise taxes as this would only raise the burden on people who are already struggling due to Covid -19.

Anbumani Ramadoss also called upon the Tamil Nadu finance minister to prevent tax evasions and said that he agreed with PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan’s assertion that the state of Tamil Nadu was rich in mineral wealth and that it was either not used or being used illegally.
