Chennai, August 23

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) will launch a six-day statewide public outreach campaign on August 26 to strengthen its engagement with people and gather feedback on its activities, political positions and priorities in Tamil Nadu.

The campaign, which will continue until August 31, will involve house-to-house visits, street-corner meetings and public gatherings across villages and urban wards. All 12,000 party branches in the State have been directed to participate in the exercise.

CPM State secretary P. Shanmugam said the programme was approved at the party’s State committee meeting held in Kanyakumari on July 31 and August 1. He urged party members to turn the drive into a broad-based exercise aimed at understanding public opinion at the grassroots.

Shanmugam said cadres would seek honest feedback on the CPM’s work and political approach. Party workers have been asked to listen patiently to residents, including those who criticise or oppose the party, and respond with political maturity.

Citing the Marxist principle of “going to the people and learning from them”, he said working people formed the party’s foundation and that their concerns and sentiments should guide its organisational and political decisions.

The campaign will also document the everyday difficulties faced by families and the measures they expect the CPM to pursue. Shanmugam said the interactions would help the party reassess its priorities and formulate responses to pressing public issues.

Several lakh pamphlets prepared by district units will be distributed during the drive. They will outline issues raised by the CPM before the Union government and discuss challenges confronting Tamil Nadu. The material will also invite public opinion on policies that the TVK government should adopt.

Senior State leaders, district functionaries, branch secretaries and grassroots members will participate in the house visits. Street-corner meetings will be organised every evening, while larger public meetings will conclude the campaign.
