Chennai, Dec 26 (BPNS)
Founder leader of Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), Dr. S. Ramadoss has called upon the state government to conduct an all-party meeting for getting exemption from the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
In a statement on Saturday, the senior leader said that the only way ahead was to get the NEET exemption bill approved. He said that students must not be made scapegoats for the NEET exemption issue and that the dreams of the students from the poorer sections must not be destroyed.
Dr. Ramadoss said that the NEET exemption bill has yet to get assent from the Governor of Tamil Nadu. He said that there was no clarity on when the bill would be forwarded to the President of India.
He said that no more poor rural students from Tamil Nadu be allowed to lose life because of the fear of NEET and called upon the government to conduct an all-party meet before the next academic year process of admission commences.
It may be noted that the Tamil Nadu government constituted a commission to study the impact of NEET headed by Retired Justice Rajan and he had given a report that the NEET exam is scrapped in the state and students provided admission based on the marks in the plus two examinations.
Scrapping the NEET examination has been a major election plank of the DMK and M.K. Stalin in particular and the government is drawing flak from all corners for not being able to implement its election promise on the same.
