Rajani Varrier Marks 25 Years in Journalism, Reflects on Journey from Passion to Professional Commitment

- April 18, 2026

Rajani Varrier, a senior television journalist, has completed nearly 25 years in the media industry, reflecting on a journey that began unexpectedly and evolved into a career defined by responsibility, learning, and resilience.

Her entry into journalism dates back to March 2001, when, while preparing for her second-year postgraduate examinations, she unexpectedly cleared the written test, interview, and screen test at Kairali TV. What began as an unplanned opportunity soon turned into a defining career path.

She spent 11 years at Kairali before moving to Asianet in April 2012, where she continues to work. Over time, she also pursued a diploma in journalism to strengthen her professional foundation.

Varrier said that although journalism quickly became her passion in the early years, the passage of time, changing circumstances, and personal experiences have reshaped that outlook. She noted that continuing with the same intensity of passion may not be entirely true today, but she remains committed to the profession with a deep sense of responsibility.

Importantly, she highlighted that she built her career without the backing of any “godfather” or patron. Instead, she credits her journey to the guidance of respected personalities in the field, along with the support, corrections, and shared experiences of colleagues—both seniors and juniors—as well as close friends.

Describing herself as a lifelong learner, Varrier said she continues to approach journalism as a student, constantly evolving through the lessons she gathers from people and experiences around her.

She also acknowledged the unseen but significant support from viewers who follow her work on television, expressing gratitude for their prayers, encouragement, and trust.

As she marks this milestone, Rajani Varrier’s journey stands as a testament to perseverance, adaptability, and the enduring value of professional integrity in journalism.
