Keralam CM calls for unity and resilience in Onam message

Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan on Tuesday extended Onam greetings to Malayalis across the world, calling upon them to uphold the festival’s enduring message of unity, hope and social harmony.

In his message, Satheesan described Onam as a celebration that transcends caste and religious differences and brings people together. The festival, he said, reminds individuals facing hardship that they are not alone and gives them the confidence to overcome adversity.

The Chief Minister noted that many families were still struggling with the consequences of natural disasters. He expressed hope that the festive season would provide them with renewed strength and courage to rebuild their lives and move forward.

Satheesan wished Malayalis everywhere a joyful Onam with their families, friends and loved ones. He urged people to set aside their worries and difficulties during the celebrations and draw inspiration from the festival’s message of resilience and collective strength.

The State government had taken necessary steps to ensure that rising prices did not adversely affect Onam celebrations, he said. Arrangements had been made to maintain the availability of essential commodities and reduce the financial burden on households during the festive period.

The Chief Minister also warned against attempts to create divisions in society by spreading hatred and hostility among communities. Certain forces were seeking to gain politically and socially by promoting discord, he said, urging people to reject such efforts.

At a time when divisive tendencies were becoming increasingly visible, Kerala must preserve its longstanding traditions of communal harmony, mutual respect and social solidarity, Satheesan said.

“Standing together is the message of Onam,” the Chief Minister said, appealing to Malayalis to rise above caste and religious considerations.

He expressed the hope that Thiruvonam would bring peace, prosperity, happiness and optimism to every household and strengthen the bonds that unite Malayalis across the world.
