Kerala is likely to receive isolated light rain on Wednesday, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting showers in five districts.
According to the latest weather bulletin, light rain may occur at isolated places in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Kasaragod. No heavy-rain warning has been issued for any district, suggesting that rainfall will remain scattered and generally mild.
Residents have nevertheless been advised to watch for sudden changes in weather, particularly in hilly areas, where conditions can shift rapidly. Motorists should remain cautious during rain because wet roads and reduced visibility may affect travel.
Although the weather over land is expected to remain relatively calm, the department has warned of strong winds and rough seas across several maritime regions. Squally winds reaching 45 kmph to 55 kmph and occasionally touching 65 kmph are likely along the south Tamil Nadu coast, the Gulf of Mannar and the adjoining Kanyakumari region.
Similar conditions are expected over the southwest Bay of Bengal and waters adjoining the southern Sri Lankan coast, posing risks to fishing and other marine activities.
Strong winds of 45 kmph to 55 kmph, gusting to 65 kmph, are also forecast along the Somalia and Oman coasts and across the west-central and southwest Arabian Sea.
The Andaman Sea may experience squally weather, with winds reaching 40 kmph to 50 kmph and occasionally 60 kmph. Rough seas and poor weather are likely in the region.
Fishermen have been advised not to enter the affected waters during the warning period. Those already at sea should follow official bulletins and take precautions. Coastal communities, boat operators and fishing crews have also been urged to remain alert, as wind speeds and sea conditions may change depending on prevailing weather systems. Authorities said updated advisories would be issued if conditions worsen over the coming hours.
