Former Governor, advocate and author Adv. P. S. Sreedharan Pillai has been selected for this year’s Amritakeerthi Award instituted by the Mata Amritanandamayi Math.
The award comprises a cash prize of Rs. 1,23,456, a Saraswati sculpture designed by Artist Namboothiri, and a citation.
The award will be presented at a function to be held on the evening of September 26 at the Amritapuri Campus of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, as part of the Vishwa Seva Day celebrations of the Mata Amritanandamayi Math.
The Amritakeerthi Award has been presented since 2001 to eminent personalities in the fields of spirituality, scholarship and science. The awardee was selected by a committee chaired by Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri, with Dr. K. S. Radhakrishnan, Dr. M. Lakshmi Kumari and Swami Turiyamritananda Puri as members.
Swami Turiyamritananda Puri said that Sreedharan Pillai is a person with profound knowledge of Indian philosophy and spirituality, and that his conviction that the essence of spirituality lies in the inter-relationship between God, nature and man is clearly reflected in his life, writings and speeches.
He noted that Adv. Sreedharan Pillai’s contributions to the literary and intellectual domains, even while active in the legal and political fields and while holding a constitutional office, are highly commendable. Adv. Sreedharan Pillai is the author of 270 books covering diverse subjects, including poetry, essays, law, travelogues, political analysis, and spiritual and philosophical thought.
