BJP has no candidate in Union minister of state for External affairs, V Muraleedharan’s home town

- March 22, 2021

Thiruvananthapuram, March 22: In a major set back to Union minister of state for External affairs ,V Muraleedharan ,the BJP don’t have a candidate in his home constituency, Thalassery.

The Kerala high court did not allow the writ petition filed by the BJP candidates , N Haridas of Thalassery, Niveditha Subramaniam of Guruvayoor and the AIADMK candidate Dhanalakshmi from Devikulam constituency.

It may be recalled that the returning officers of these constituencies had rejected the candidature of these candidates following the incomplete filing of election documents.

Muraleedharan who was the state president of BJP hails from Thalassery, the coastal town of Kannur district which had witnessed intense political battle with the CPM leading to the loss of lives to several RSS, BJP workers.

The Union minister was an ABVP leader and used to flaunt his high connections in the echelons of BJP power centres and his close association with the present Sarkaryavahak of RSS, Dattatreya Hosabella.

However the BJP leader failed to ensure that the party district president of Kannur district ,N Haridas’s candidature is accepted. While minor clerical errors and overlooking of facts is considered as the reason for the rejection of Haridas’s candidature, Muraleedharan cannot absolve of such a folly to happen in his home town.

It may be noted that in the last assembly elections, the BJP candidate from Thalassery constituency had polled , 22, 125 votes the highest votes garnered by a BJP candidate in Kannur district of Kerala.

BJP leader MP Sumesh who had lost a palm in an attack by CPM gang, while speaking to Bharathpost.news said, “ BJP has yet to decide on the party’s election strategy after Haridas’s candidature was rejected. We are waiting for the party state committee’s confirmation on the same.”
