Ernakulam district for AI route to modernise government administration

Ernakulam district is set to take a major step towards technology-driven governance with the launch of AI-ERA, a programme designed to equip government officials with Artificial Intelligence skills and incorporate AI tools into public administration.

The initiative, titled AI-ERA (Ernakulam Revolutionising Administration), is being rolled out by the Ernakulam district administration in association with the Kerala State IT Mission. It aims to make Ernakulam the first AI-literate government district in Kerala.

Higher Education Minister Roji M. John will inaugurate the initiative at 10.30 am on Thursday at Park Centre Hall, Infopark, Kakkanad.

District Collector Priyanka G, senior officials, heads of various government departments, representatives of the Kerala State IT Mission and other dignitaries are expected to attend the launch.

As a key component of the initiative, a dedicated AI Studio will be established at the Ernakulam Collectorate. The facility will function as a year-round training centre for government officials, offering programmes ranging from basic AI concepts to advanced applications.

The training will cover areas including prompt engineering, data analysis, cybersecurity and the practical use of AI in governance. Officials will be trained to integrate suitable AI tools into their day-to-day administrative work to improve efficiency and accelerate public service delivery.

The programme will also emphasise the responsible and secure use of Artificial Intelligence as government departments increasingly adopt emerging technologies in their operations.

The district administration expects AI-ERA to help reduce processing time, strengthen administrative capabilities and improve the quality of services provided to citizens.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to build an AI-enabled, transparent and citizen-centric administrative system in the district.

Through AI-ERA, Ernakulam hopes to emerge as a model for the effective adoption of Artificial Intelligence in government administration and pave the way for similar technology-driven governance initiatives across Kerala.
