Indian basketball player Ulhas Satyanarayan, one of the country’s pioneering professionals in European basketball, was recently honoured by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in recognition of his achievements on the international stage.

The Tamil Nadu-born point guard has carved a unique place for himself in Indian basketball through a successful career across several European leagues. His accomplishments have made him one of the few Indian players to establish a sustained presence in professional basketball overseas.

Ulhas began attracting attention during his stint with the University of Westminster in London, where he played from 2016 to 2019. A gifted leader on the court, he captained the university team and guided it to victory in the London inter-university basketball league during his second year.

His performances in England paved the way for a professional career in Europe. Ulhas made history by becoming one of the first Indian basketball players to compete professionally in European leagues, breaking new ground for Indian athletes in the sport.

Among the highlights of his European journey was his association with Serbian first-division club Novi Pazar Salamander, where he played as a point guard and competed against some of the region’s leading teams. He later represented Gloria Basketball Club in Moldova’s National Basketball League, a respected professional competition that enjoys a growing reputation on the European basketball circuit.

Over the years, Ulhas has built an impressive international résumé, representing clubs across different European countries and earning recognition for his skill, leadership and consistency. His achievements have inspired young Indian basketball players to look beyond domestic competitions and pursue opportunities on the global stage.

The recent recognition from Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is another milestone in the career of the Tamil Nadu star, who continues to serve as a prominent ambassador for Indian basketball in Europe.
