JNU Vice Chancellor Jagdish Kumar to head Anna University VC search panel

- April 2, 2021

Chennai, April 2(BPNS)

Vice Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University( JNU), Jagdish Kumar will head a search panel of three members to select the Vice chancellor of the Anna university.

He is appointed as the nominee of the Tamil Nadu Governor, Bhanwarilal Purohit and Convenor of Anna University VC selection search committee.

The other members of the panel are retired Tamil Nadu health Secretary, Sheela Rani Chungath and former Madras University Vice Chancellor, Dr VP Thyagarajan.

While Thyagarajan is the nominee of the Syndicate, Sheela Rani Chungath is the nominee of the state government.

The model code of conduct of the Election commission of India has delayed the constitution of the search committee and the appointment of members was done after the consent of the Election commission.

However the selection process is likely to start only after April 6, when the elections are over.

There was stiff opposition to the posting of Jagdish Kumar as the head of the selection panel of Vice Chancellors for Madras university with the Tamil Nadu political parties opposing his candidature stating that he was involved in controversies as VC of JNU.
