Bengaluru, August 15
Karnataka will target one lakh new jobs, introduce artificial intelligence education in government schools and establish technology hubs across the State under its ‘Young Karnataka–New India’ vision, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said on Saturday.
Addressing the 80th Independence Day celebrations at Manekshaw Parade Ground in Bengaluru, Shivakumar announced the Chief Minister Udyoga Sankalpa and Udyoga Nidhi schemes to expand employment and encourage entrepreneurship.
The government has begun filling 72,000 key vacancies across departments, he said. Notifications for all identified posts are expected within six months, opening substantial opportunities for jobseekers.
Under Udyoga Nidhi, entrepreneurs in 10 economically backward districts will receive ₹2,500 a month for every new job created. The programme aims to generate one lakh additional jobs while stimulating investment and growth in less-developed regions.
The Chief Minister also outlined plans to strengthen technology education. Artificial intelligence will be introduced from Class 6 in government schools, alongside the proposed AI Akshara Abhiyana and Coding Gurukula programmes, to equip students with digital skills from an early age.
Bengaluru will host what the government described as India’s first government-owned AI university. Dedicated AI hubs will also be established to support research, innovation and industry collaboration.
To extend technology-led development beyond Bengaluru, five global technology centres are planned in Kalaburagi, Belagavi, Hubballi-Dharwad, Mangaluru and Mysuru. The centres are expected to attract investment and create skilled employment across Karnataka.
An Advanced Manufacturing Cluster under development at Doddaballapura has secured investment commitments worth ₹20,000 crore. The project is expected to provide jobs to about one lakh people and reinforce the State’s industrial base.
He said balanced regional development would remain central to the government’s economic strategy over the coming years.
Shivakumar said the combined initiatives would position Karnataka as a leading destination for skills, advanced manufacturing, technology and innovation.
