Thiruvananthapuram, June 24: The Kerala government has commenced the distribution of the June installment of social welfare pensions, providing financial assistance to more than 5.17 million beneficiaries across the state. Each beneficiary will receive ₹2,000 under the monthly welfare pension scheme.
The state government has sanctioned ₹1,080 crore for the payment of the June pensions. Officials said the disbursement process began on Wednesday and is expected to be completed before July 3.
Apart from the social welfare pensions, pensions under various Welfare Fund Boards will also be distributed from Wednesday. The State Finance Department has allocated an additional ₹128.59 crore to facilitate the payment of Welfare Fund Board pensions.
The welfare pension programme remains one of Kerala’s most significant social security initiatives, extending financial support to vulnerable sections of society, including senior citizens, widows, persons with disabilities, unmarried women and agricultural labourers.
Among the pensions being distributed are the Agricultural Workers’ Pension, the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension, Disability Pension, Pension for Unmarried Women and Widow Pension. These schemes provide a crucial financial lifeline to lakhs of beneficiaries who depend on the monthly assistance to meet essential living expenses.
Government sources said all agencies involved in the disbursement process have been directed to ensure the speedy transfer of funds to beneficiaries. Efforts are being made to complete the distribution within the stipulated timeframe and avoid delays in payments.
The timely release of pensions is expected to bring relief to beneficiaries across the state amid rising household expenses and living costs. The government reiterated its commitment to strengthening the social security network and ensuring regular and efficient pension payments.
With the latest allocation, lakhs of pensioners across Kerala are set to receive financial assistance over the coming days, reinforcing the state’s welfare support system for some of its most vulnerable communities.
