The Kerala government has sanctioned Rs 45.68 crore for infrastructure development and academic improvements at government colleges across the state, Higher Education Minister Rojy M. John said on Tuesday.
The allocation of Rs 45,68,11,037 is intended to strengthen physical and information technology infrastructure, improve research facilities and address human-resource requirements in the government college sector. The funds will finance academic blocks, administrative centres, libraries, hostels, messes, compound walls and other essential facilities.
Kesari Government Arts and Science College at Paravur in Ernakulam district has received the largest share, with Rs 13.48 crore sanctioned for a new administrative centre.
Maharaja’s College in Ernakulam has been allotted Rs 5.60 crore for the construction of hostel and mess buildings. Government College, Kariavattom, will receive Rs 4.81 crore to establish a new library and research block.
The government has earmarked Rs 2.42 crore for infrastructure works at Government Brennen College of Teacher Education. Government College, Munnar, has been granted Rs 1.98 crore to construct a compound wall.
Madappally Government College in Vadakara will receive Rs 1.34 crore for a new arts block, while Rs 1.29 crore has been allotted to Government Arts and Science College, Karunagappally, for an academic block and compound wall.
Among the other beneficiaries, K.K.T.M. Government College has been allocated Rs 1.27 crore. E.K.N.M. Government College at Elerithattu will receive Rs 99.68 lakh, and Government Arts and Science College, Tholanur, has been granted Rs 98.35 lakh.
The balance will be distributed among other colleges covered by the government order for similar development projects. Work will be undertaken in phases, with implementation monitored regularly.
John said the investment would provide students with a better learning environment, widen research opportunities and raise academic standards. Officials said the projects would be executed in accordance with approved plans and institutional priorities.
