Puducherry Union Territory reports five more deaths on Wednesday

Chennai, April 21(BPNS)

The Union Territory of Puducherry which has announced a lockdown from Friday evening to Monday morning has reported five more deaths owing to Covid -19 since the last 24 hours as on Wednesday morning 10 am. With this the total death toll in Puducherry has risen to 722.

The fatality rate at the UT stood at 1.5% which is higher than the national average at 1.2%. The number of Covid- 19 cases continue to increase in the UT with 619 fresh cases and 283 patients recovering from the disease.

The total number of active cases as on Wednesday stood at 5404 of which 4368 are under home isolation and treatment. Puducherry headquarters has the maximum number of active cases with 4,151 followed by Karikkal (718),Yanam (291) and Mahe (244).

Puducherry headquarters reported 80% of the deaths and accounted for 577 deaths followed by Karikkal (87), Yanam (46) and Mahe(12). The maximum number of fresh cases was also reported at Puducherry headquarters with 470 cases followed by Karikkal(70), Yanam (41), Mahe(38).
