- May 24, 2026

Kochi, May 24:

Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan on Sunday unveiled an ambitious roadmap for Kerala’s future development, stating that the government aims to transform the state into a leading aviation hub in Asia while addressing the growing concern of brain drain by creating better opportunities for young people.

Speaking at a civic reception organised for him along with newly appointed Ministers and MLAs at the Kadavanthra Indoor Stadium in Kochi, Satheesan said the state would focus on building a strong network of professionals and experts capable of driving large-scale development projects.

The Chief Minister highlighted the migration of talented youth and professionals from Kerala as a serious challenge that requires long-term intervention. He stressed that the government’s development agenda would concentrate on expanding quality education, generating employment opportunities and supporting entrepreneurship to encourage young people to remain in the state.

“The migration of young people from the state is a serious issue. We need to create conditions where they can build their future here itself,” Satheesan said, adding that innovation and new ventures would receive greater support under the new administration.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to social welfare, Satheesan also recalled the Cabinet’s decision to establish a dedicated Senior Citizens Department. He said the progress of a society is reflected in the manner in which it treats its elderly population and expressed confidence that Kerala could emerge as a model state in caring for senior citizens.

He further said the government would remain committed to protecting the interests of senior citizens, ensuring justice for future generations and preserving secular and inclusive values.

The event was attended by prominent Malayalam film personalities including Mammootty and Kunchacko Boban, along with several MLAs. During the function, Mammootty presented the Chief Minister with a traditional ponnada, while both actors expressed hope that the new government would work for the welfare of people beyond political and social divisions. Satheesan also said Ernakulam should evolve into the central hub of the Malayalam film industry.
