Thrissur, Aug 6: Two people were killed and around 10 others seriously injured after a private bus went out of control and crashed into several vehicles near Kunnamkulam in Thrissur district on Thursday afternoon.

The accident took place at Parempadom on the Kunnamkulam–Pattambi Road around 2.30 pm. The Alankar limited-stop private bus was travelling from Kozhikode to Thrissur when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle.

The bus struck a motorcycle, a Maruti Swift car and a van before veering off the road and crashing through the gate of a nearby house. The sequence of collisions left several vehicles badly damaged and caused panic among passengers and residents in the area.

One of those killed has been identified as Riya Fathima, 17, a native of Perumpilavu. She was travelling in the car that was hit by the bus. The identity of the second victim was yet to be confirmed.

Around 10 passengers travelling in the bus suffered serious injuries in the accident. Local residents rushed to the scene immediately after the crash and helped rescue the injured. They were subsequently taken to hospitals in Kunnamkulam and nearby areas for treatment.

Police and emergency personnel also reached the spot and launched rescue operations. Traffic along the Kunnamkulam–Pattambi Road was disrupted following the accident as emergency teams worked to clear the damaged vehicles from the road.

The force of the collision caused extensive damage to some of the vehicles involved. Authorities were also gathering information to determine whether anyone other than the bus passengers had suffered injuries.

The cause of the accident has not yet been established. Police have launched an investigation and are expected to examine the bus and other vehicles involved in the crash. Statements from the driver, passengers and eyewitnesses are also likely to be recorded to establish the circumstances that led to the accident.
