Thiruvananthapuram, May 31

The Kerala government on Sunday assigned district-wise responsibilities to members of the newly constituted United Democratic Front (UDF) Cabinet in a move aimed at strengthening administrative coordination, improving governance, and ensuring closer monitoring of development activities across the state.

According to an official government order, each of Kerala’s 14 districts has been placed under the supervision of a Cabinet minister. The arrangement is intended to facilitate better coordination between the state government and district administrations, while enabling ministers to closely monitor the implementation of welfare schemes, infrastructure projects, and other key government initiatives.

Under the new allocation, Local Self-Government Minister K.M. Shaji has been given charge of Kasaragod, while Industries Minister Sunny Joseph will oversee Kannur district. Transport Minister C.P. John has been assigned responsibility for Thiruvananthapuram district.

Forest Minister Shibu Baby John has been entrusted with Kollam, while Tourism Minister P.C. Vishnunath will supervise Pathanamthitta district. Excise and Cooperation Minister M. Liju has been given charge of Alappuzha.

Senior leader and Minister Mons Joseph will oversee Kottayam, while Food and Civil Supplies Minister Anoop Jacob has been assigned Idukki district. Minister Roji M. John has been entrusted with Ernakulam, one of Kerala’s most economically significant districts.

Minister O.J. Jeneesh has been given responsibility for Thrissur, while Minister N. Shamsuddeen will oversee Palakkad. Public Works Minister P.K. Basheer has been assigned Malappuram, and Revenue Minister A.P. Anil Kumar will be in charge of Kozhikode district.

Agriculture Minister T. Siddique has been entrusted with the responsibility of Wayanad district.

Government sources said the district allocation system is designed to ensure that ministers remain closely engaged with local administrations, regularly review the progress of major projects, and promptly address district-specific issues. The initiative is also expected to improve coordination among government departments and accelerate the implementation of the UDF government’s development agenda across Kerala.

Officials believe the new arrangement will enhance administrative efficiency, strengthen accountability, and ensure that governance initiatives reach people more effectively at the grassroots level.
