Chennai, 02 Oct
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will lead a 45-km roadshow through Madurantakam on Friday to campaign for TVK candidate Maragatham Kumaravel ahead of the October 6 Assembly bypoll.
The five-hour programme, scheduled from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., will cover towns and villages across the constituency, with Vijay expected to greet residents and interact with supporters at around 39 designated points.
This will be his second visit to Madurantakam during the bypoll campaign. He has also canvassed for TVK candidate Sathyabama in Dharapuram, which votes on the same day.
Organisers initially planned a public meeting but subsequently changed the programme to a roadshow to enable the Chief Minister to reach residents in different parts of the constituency.
The procession will start at Mamandur, near the Chengalpattu boundary, and pass through Padalam, the Karunguzhi Ayyanar temple area, Madurantakam town, Perumbakkam and Melmaruvathur. It will conclude at Acharapakkam.
During the campaign, Vijay will visit the Adhiparasakthi Siddhar Peedam at Melmaruvathur and offer special prayers to the presiding deity.
More than 1,500 police personnel will be deployed along the route to provide security, regulate crowds and manage traffic. Attention will be paid to stretches of the national highway through which the procession will pass.
Police have arranged alternative routes to ease congestion and erected barricades on both sides of the road at locations along the campaign route. Surveillance has also been intensified as preparations continue for the Chief Minister’s visit.
The route will give Vijay opportunities to meet voters and party workers across Madurantakam in the final days before polling. With both Madurantakam and Dharapuram heading to the polls on October 6, Friday’s programme forms part of TVK’s efforts to mobilise support for its candidates and maintain contact with residents as the campaign enters its closing phase.
