A 45 year old man, Murugan who attempted to immolate himself by dousing his body with petrol inside the Tamil Nadu assembly media centre was foiled.
Murugan who entered the assembly premises under the guise of a journalist on Wednesday, doused himself with petrol and was about light a matchstick when an alert Marshal foiled his attempt. Police immediately took him into custody and poured water over his body.
He was taken to a nearby hospital and is under medical observation.
Police sources told IANS that the reason for the suicide attempt was not known and could be ascertained after a couple of hours when the person will be discharged from hospital.
