Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 6 (BPNS)

The ruling CPM state committee has decided to reprimand party senior leader and state committee member, G. Sudhakaran who was the most powerful leader of the party in Alappuzha district. While the open reprimanding is not a major party action, it was indeed shocking for the veteran leader who has turned 73 years of age.

The party has taken the decision following complaints from the CPM candidate at Alappuzha in the 2021 assembly elections, H.Salam that Sudhakaran did not take active participation in his election campaign. The CPM, according to its organizational scheme of things constituted a two-member fact-finding committee comprising of Member of Parliament and senior leader, Elamaram Kareem, and party state secretariat member, K.J. Thomas.

The two-member commission had in its report, according to party sources, informed that Sudhakaran was in fact lethargic in his election activities and had not worked wholeheartedly for the victory of H. Salam.

The commission was also critical of the veteran leader’s general attitude and had not defended the criticisms that painted H. Salam in a bad light. The report according to sources has also mentioned that Sudhakaran did not participate in the election review meetings of the Alappuzha district committee as also the party-state committee and in a cadre-based party like the CPM, is considered as indiscipline.

The 73-year-old party leader was the former PWD minister of Kerala in the Pinarayi Vijayan and the previous Achuthanandan governments and was also a four-term MLA in the Kerala assembly. He did not have any black mark in his illustrious political carrier and there was never an allegation of corruption against him. He had also taken major steps to eradicate corruption in the state PWD department during his tenure as a minister.

Sudhakaran while coming out of the AKG centre, the CPM state headquarters, after the meeting did not respond to the waiting media. He hopped into a waiting car and sped away to his forte, Alappuzha immediately after the meeting.
