TN police hunt woman who extracted money from people using Cobra

Tamil Nadu police are on the hunt for a woman who seems to be a nomad and threatened people with a cobra and extracted money from them. A video of the woman handling Cobra went viral and police have registered a suo moto case against her and a hunt is on.

An officer with the Tambaram police station told BPNS that the woman seems to be a nomad and a snake charmer. The officer said that the woman had informed the residents that she was from Villupuram and had reached Chennai.

The Woman, according to police went to several residences at Meppadu in Tambaram and asked for money and clothes and at places where people refused to give money, she took out a snake from a basket. She then started playing an instrument and the cobra slithered towards the homes.

Sukumaran Nair, a resident of Meppadu while speaking to BPNS said, “ The woman appeared one fine morning and was asking people for money. At places where people did not give her money, she opened a basket and played an instrument and a cobra came out of the basket and expanded its hood. Residents paid her money and clothes and then chased her away. Someone has filmed a video of this which went viral and police have taken a case.”

He said that the woman told the people that she is from Villupuram and that her son lived in Tambaram and that she used to carry the cobra whenever she visited her son in train.

Forest officials have also joined the police in the hunt for the woman.
