- February 27, 2022

Chennai, Feb 27 (BPNS)

Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary, V. Irai Anbu on Sunday ordered removal of all hoardings in the Avadi district of Tamil Nadu. The Senior officer issued the orders after the media had reported on illegal digital cutouts raised by the ruling DMK in Avadi.

The Chief Secretary ordered the Director, Municipal administration, P.Ponniah to remove all the hoardings by Sunday evening itself.  The Avadi municipal commissioner has already informed the district collector that already eight hoardings have been removed.

It may be recalled that Madras High Court had in 2021 directed that digital banners must not be erected without compliance to the Tamil Nadu Urban Local bodies (Permission of erection of Digital Banners and Placards ) rules 2011.

The rule mandates individuals or groups to seek permission through writing for putting digital banners.

The Tamil Nadu government had informed the Madras High Court on more than one occasion that necessary and serious efforts have been made to prevent the unauthorized erection of digital banners or placards and that continuous monitoring would be done by district collectors, superintendents of police, commissioners of police and other local body authorities. The media had reported that digital banners /placards were erected in several parts by the DMK workers.
