Tamil Nadu music industry mourns KK’s death

Tuesday night turned out to be a sad day for the music lovers across the country, Tamil Nadu being no exception. It was a day when Indian music industry’s poster boy Krishnakumar Kunnath, or ‘KK’ passed away after a stage performance in Kolkotta.

With the passing away of KK, several music lovers of Tamil Nadu are mourning the genius singer whose songs took the country by storm.

The first song in Tamil that KK rendered was ‘Kallori Salai’ in the movie ‘Kadhal Desam which is an evergreen hit. In 1997,A.R. Rahman movie ‘Minsare Kanave’ the song of KK,’ Strawberry Kanne’ turned into a super-duper hit and the music director was the legend, A.R. Rahman.

The 2004 movie ‘Ghilli’ was significant with the rock number of KK,’ Appadi Podu’, and turned into be a major hit at a pan-India level.

KK then delivered several hit numbers associating himself with new Tamil movie directors like Harris Jayaraj and Yuvan Shankar Raja. His song ‘Lavu Pannu’ for the movie 12B featuring Simran and Jyothika in which music was rendered by Haris Jayaraj turned into one of Tamil’s most loved songs ever.

He again teamed up with Harris Jayaraj for the song ‘Uyirin Uyire’ a fast-paced song, for the movie, Kaakha Kaakha, and the song ‘Kalyanam Dhan Kattikuttu’ for the movie Saamy starring Vikram and Trisha.

In the movie ‘Manmadhan’ he sang the super-duper hit song ‘Kadal Valarthen’ composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

He also sang ‘Annanoda Pattu’ in the movie  Chandramukhi which was actor Rajanikanth’s come back film after Baba.

Kokilanathan, a Tamil filmmaker while speaking to BPNS said, “The passing away of KK is unbelievable and we don’t know how the audience of this country will bear this loss. It’s a major major loss for the Indian music industry. He has an excellent voice and has mesmerized the audience with his magic. We can’t bear that he is no more with us.”

Music Director Harris Jayaraj in a tweet said,” My ‘Uyirin Uyire ‘passed away. RIP singer KK. What shocking news to hear when the whole world is praising his last song ‘Konji Konji’. I am completely shattered and my condolences to his family and friends”.

Yuvan Shankar Raja said,” This has been a sad week for the music community with the passing away of Sidhu Moose Wala and KK.”

He said, “It’s been a sad week for the music community of our country with Sidhu Moose Wale and now KK. Life is unpredictable and we never know what the next minute holds. You will be missed KK”.
