Heavy police posse in Erode fearing protest as TN Governor to reach on Wednesday

The Erode district police have deployed a heavy contingent of police at the Dheeran Chninnamalai memorial Mani Mandapam in Odanilai in the district as the Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi is to attend the death anniversary programmes of the Dheeran Chinnamalai on Wednesday.

R.N. Ravi was shown black flags in many parts of the state and fearing these protests, the district police have taken precautions to prevent any untoward incident while he would be participating at the Dheeran Chinnamalai memorial.

The state government is conducting the 217th death anniversary function of freedom fighter Dheeran Chinnamalai at his Mani Mandapam. The Tamil Nadu government has been observing the anniversary as a state government function since 2003 and a memorial was constructed with his statue in the year 2006 at his birthplace in Odanilai.

The Erode district administration has also declared August 3rd as a local holiday to observe the death anniversary of the great freedom fighter.

The official function of the state government at the Dheeran Chinnamalai will commence after the Erode District collector H. Krishnanunii garland the statue of the freedom fighter on August 3rd morning and pay his respects.

Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi will pay floral tributes to the freedom fighter between 11.30 am and 12 pm on Wednesday and to prevent any untoward incident during the function a heavy police contingent is deployed. The district administration told BPNS that around 900 policemen will be deployed in the district during the Governor’s visit.

The Tamil Nadu Governor will also be attending a function of the Kongu Social Spiritual Educational and Cultural Foundation and Dheeran Chinnamalai Alliance at Jayaramapauram village in the district. Here also a heavy police contingent will be on duty to provide security to the Governor.
