Chennai, Sept 1 (BPNS)

The Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Thursday suspended six lawyers from practicing. Among the six who are suspended one is facing murder charges while another is an accused in POCSO case.

The action has been initiated either due to the complaints received against them or because of registration of criminal charges.

The secretary of the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, C. Rajkumar said that a lawyer P. Rajendran was serving as a science teacher in a Government school in Kohima, Nagaland for the past 23 years without suspending his practice.

An advocate, K. Karthi of Tiruvannamalai district was suspended from practice as he was an accused in a murder case registered against him at the Arni Police station.

Advocate Dinesh Kumar of Tiruvannamalai was facing a charge of kidnap booked against him by Raniapuram police station in Chennai. Another advocate, S. Senthilkumar of Kulithalai in Karur district was an accused in a case booked at an All Women police station in Kuluthalai under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (Pocso)Act, 2012.

Two advocates, C. Elangovan and A. Pugalendy were both suspended as they reportedly threatened and tried to bribe to get recognition for their local bar Association.

The six lawyers can resume practice only after the disposal of the disciplinary actions against them.
