Rajiv assassination convicts to be deported to Lanka on receipt of travel documents

The four Sri Lankan nationals who were convicts in the assassination of former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi will be deported to the island nation after the travel receipts of the four are received from that country.

The four Sri Lankans, Murugan alias Sri Haran, Shanthan, Robert Payas, and Jayakumar were released along with Nalini and Ravichandran from the prison following the Supreme Court judgment releasing all the convicts.

The four are now lodged in the special rehabilitation camp, Tiruchi for foreign nationals. Tiruchi district collector, M. Pradeep Kumar told media persons that the four would be deported on receipt of travel documents from Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile one of the four, Robert Payas protested against his being lodged in a room along with another convict Jayakumar and wanted him to be accommodated with other inmates. Payas did not take food provided by revenue authorities but according to Tiruchi rehabilitation camp authorities, he was taking beverages and snacks.

Jayakumar was admitted to hospital on Saturday following some allergic conditions but was released from the hospital on Sunday.

It may be noted that Nalini, another convict in Rajiv Gandhi assassination case and married to Murugan alias Sri Haran wanted Murugan to be allowed to continue in India. Nalini had told media persons that she and her husband Murugan were planning to go to London to be with their daughter who is a medical doctor and till then wanted Murugan to be in India with her.
