Israel to allow more aid vehicles into northern Gaza

- April 7, 2024

Tel Aviv ,April 7 (BPNS)

The Israel Prime Minister‘s Office has said that Israel  would allow more aid trucks into northern Gaza from Saturday onwards.

This is following the famine like situation engulfing the war struck Gaza region and the suspension  of activities by international agencies like World Central Kitchen (WCK ) since the killing of seven of its workers in an accidental IDF attack on late Monday.

Israel would allow movement of aid vehicles through the Israeli port of Ashdod and for the first time through the Erez border crossing in northern Gaza.

The Erez border crossing was considerably damaged during the October 7 Hamas attack that led to the killing of 1200 Israeli people and injuring more than 3000.

The number of  aid trucks coming into the famine struck northern Gaza through the Kerem Shalom crossing in Gaza have also been increased.

The Israel side, it may be recalled was adamant that it won’t allow aid trucks into northern Gaza after indirect  talks between Israel and Hamas for a temporary ceasefire and hostage release have failed.

Sources in the Israel Prime Minister‘s Office (PMO) told BPNS that Iarael has opened his northern Erez crossing as a pure humanitarian gesture and not due to any global pressure.

With the opening of Erez crossing around hundred aid trucks would be allowed into northern Gaza comprising of food materials, medicines and fuel.
