Visakhapatnam, August 23

Delegates from BRICS countries participated in a friendship cycling rally in Visakhapatnam on Sunday as part of the BRICS Youth and Sports Ministers’ Meeting 2026.

Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, who joined the event, said the delegates enjoyed the ride and appreciated the initiative aimed at promoting fitness, friendship and environmental awareness.

The BRICS Friendship Cycling event coincided with the nationwide “Sundays on Cycle” programme organised under the Fit India movement launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Mandaviya said cycling events were conducted in nearly 1,800 cities across the country on Sunday, drawing the participation of around 50 lakh young people.

Describing cycling as one of the best forms of physical exercise, the Union Minister said it could help people improve their fitness while also reducing pollution. He urged citizens, particularly young people, to make cycling a regular Sunday activity to protect their health and contribute to a cleaner environment.

The rally began at the Novotel Hotel and proceeded to the Sea Harrier Museum before returning to the starting point. BRICS delegates, government officials, elected representatives and a large number of young participants took part in the event.

Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Nikhil Khadse, MLC Vepada Chiranjeevi Rao and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao were among those present.

Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh Managing Director Bharani, Visakhapatnam Commissioner of Police Shankhabrata Bagchi, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation Commissioner Ketan Garg, District Sports Development Officer June Gallyot and Urban Community Development Project Director Satyaveni also attended.

Several Central government officials joined the rally, which sought to strengthen sporting ties among BRICS nations while encouraging young people to adopt active and environmentally responsible lifestyles.
