Senior CPM leader and State Secretariat member P Jayarajan has accused Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan and the UDF government of creating favourable conditions for the Sangh Parivar to strengthen its presence in Kerala.
Addressing the media in Kannur, Jayarajan alleged that Sangh Parivar organisations were among those most pleased with Satheesan becoming Chief Minister.
The conduct of the government during its first 120 days clearly demonstrated its unwillingness to confront the RSS and its affiliated organisations, he claimed.
Jayarajan said the government had not taken a single decision that could displease or inconvenience the RSS or the wider Sangh Parivar network.
He alleged that Hindutva forces viewed the present UDF administration as a favourable period to expand their organisational base and intensify communal politics in Kerala.
Referring to the political developments in West Bengal, the CPM leader warned that Sangh Parivar organisations were preparing to pursue a similar strategy in Kerala.
He claimed that these forces were strengthening themselves under the protection offered by the policies and political approach of the Satheesan government.
Jayarajan also accused corporate interests and communal forces of working together across the country, making religious polarisation increasingly dangerous.
Attempts to counter Hindu consolidation through Muslim consolidation would only deepen communal divisions and weaken Kerala’s secular social fabric, he said.
Launching a sharp attack on the Indian Union Muslim League, Jayarajan alleged that the party was emerging as the principal advocate of Muslim consolidation.
He claimed that the League’s recent political activities showed that it was gradually transforming itself into a “Muslim BJP”.
The CPM leader said Kerala needed a strong secular and democratic alternative to both forms of religious consolidation.
Political parties, he added, must resist communal polarisation instead of encouraging competing religious blocs for short-term electoral gains.
