In a case of grave medical negligence, Thrissur Government Medical College Hospital authorities hand over the dead body of a person without completing formalities. It’s the dead body of Yusuf, who succumbed to road accident injuries, which got released without a postmortem. As the incident came to light, health minister Veena George ordered a probe. As per protocol, a postmortem is mandatory in accident death cases.
“It will be inquired how such a dereliction occurred. The Director of Medical Education will conduct the inquiry. Following that adequate actions will be initiated,” said Veena.
It was on June 8 that Yusuf, a resident of Vadakanchery, got admitted to the Thrissur MCH with serious injuries following a bike accident. On Sunday morning he breathed his last. According to relatives, the duty doctors handed over his mortal remains and it was while performing the last rites that the authorities arrived and took back the body for postmortem.
